End of the Season Review

The 2013 Upper Merion Volleyball season was an outstanding success as the Lady Vikings won their 7th consecutive undefeated American Conference title and followed that up with their 4th District One Championship in the last 6 seasons. During the season some historic milestones were achieved; namely, Melanie Ingram setting the school record in kills by attaining her 1000th kill and Coach Funsten winning his 600th match in the program's 20 year existence. UM also finished the regular season undefeated. In fact, Upper Merion was the only undefeated team in the state when its season ended at the hands of Southern Lehigh in the state quarterfinals. The Lady Vikings finished 5th in the state with a 24-1 match record.
With great success come many awards as Melanie Ingram, Ashley Shannon and Emily Shannon were all named SOL first team. Eryn Brady and Kailyn McNamee were named 2nd team while Nikki Carpenter was honored on the 3rd team. Melanie Ingram will be sorely missed next year but she is the only senior on the team so the future of Upper Merion volleyball is bright for the years to come.

Sophomore setter Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) recorded assists on 30 of her team’s 34 kills in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Albright on Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over DeSales later in the day, Koenig had 34 assists
Freshman Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) had a team high 13 digs in UMBC’s 3-1 loss to Ole Miss on Friday

Wednesday 8/28: scrimmage at Council Rock North (just varsity). Bus leaves at 3:30 pm, return at 8 pm.
Thursday 8/29: JV 2:45-4:45; VAR 2:45-5:00 CYO Scrimmage Night Juniors and seniors report to work 6-7:30; Freshmen and sophomores report 7:30-9.
Friday 8/30: 1st match vs Central Bucks East-Varsity only 3 pm. Varsity report at 2 pm, JV at 2:30
Saturday 8/31: Varsity only Tournament at Bethlehem Freedom HS. Bus leaves 6:15 am
